Michael and I have taken on a huge challenge and we understand that only a knowledge of the past can lead us to the future. We desire to record the family history in an accurate manner. Our ancestors are more than names, dates, and tombstones. They are real people with stories and histories and it is important that “No one gets forgotten.”

We consider it an honor to be invited to people’s homes and share their memories, photos and treasures. We always ask the owner, “Do you mind if we share this information and photos?” In our journey, we often find out information that people ask us not to share and we respect that. Not all memories are meant to be shared publically via this blog or with other people and we respect that. Sometimes people share with us some of their treasure and allow us to photograph those items but do not want it made public they are in possession of those items and we respect the wishes of the owner.

We need to know everything in order to put this family puzzle together. However, we do not have to tell everything we know.

Joseph Joe "Strawberry Joe" Penney 07/26/1873 - 12/11/1954

Joseph Joe Penney also known as "Strawberry Joe" was born on 07/26/1873. He married Nannie Bell Emery and had 2 sons Paul 07/01/1925 - 09/22/1973 and Silas 11/18/1927 04/26/1969.

He was a member of the East Soddy Church of God and donated the land next to the church to be used as a cemetery formerly called the Penney Family Cemetery.

Stawberry Joe died of colon cancer on December 11, 1954. He is buried at the Penney Family/East Soddy Cemetery next to his son Silas. His wife maybe be buried in Ohio. His son Paul died in Florida and was taken to Ohio for burial.

The only photo we have of Strawberry Joe is with his brothers, Three Finger and Tom. We have no photos of his wife and only 1 photo each of his son's Paul and Silas.

Charles Robert Pierce, age 62, of Pine Knot, Kentucky, died, June 4, 2008 at the St. Mary’s Scott County Hospital in Oneida, Tennessee.
Funeral services were Sunday, June 8, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Sewell and Rev. Bruce Dixon officiating. He was buried at the Pine Knot Cemetery.
Robert was born January 28, 1946, in Barthell, Kentucky, to the late Jesse Oliver “J.O.” and Nellie Hamby Pierce. Besides his parents he is preceded in death by a son Glen Edward Pierce who passed away on May 30, 1970, and two brothers Johnie and Jesse Willard Pierce. He is survived by his wife of 42 years Janice Sue Jones Pierce whom he married on July 23, 1965. They made their home in Pine Knot and have a daughter Jennifer “J.J.” Barnettt and her husband Frank of Pine Knot. They have a granddaughter Joni Lowe and two great grandchildren Kayli and Morgan Lowe, and a special great nephew Cody Cox. Surviving brothers and sisters are Warren Pierce (his wife Helen) of Nicholasville, Kentucky, Ona Ison (her husband Lee is deceased) of Columbus, Georgia, Margaret King (her husband Herb) of Orange City, Florida, and Wilma Moses (and her husband Jimmy) of Huber Heights, Ohio.
Robert was a former park ranger at Cumberland Falls State Park and a security guard. He had been an entertainer at Tombstone Junction and both a former deputy sheriff and deputy jailer. He served in the United States Air Force and was a member of the Whitley City Church of God. He enjoyed gospel music and being around young people. In his earlier years before becoming disabled he liked to hunt and fish and going to stock car races.
