This story was shared by Betty Wilson Crawley. She is the wife of Eugene Crawley and John 3 Finger Penney would have been her grandfather-in-law.
Smiling as she told the story, Mrs. Crawley, recounted the story of one of John's favorite saying, "not a clout till May is out." What does it mean you ask? It means he was not putting away his winter long underwear till the end of May. Summer was not really her until then.
